Tiny Tofu

Home Up

This is Tiny Tofu (on the viewer's right), named by my son Michael.  Tofu is the runt of the litter. Seen above next to a larger brother she doesn't even look like the same breed.  She weighs 410g while her brother weighs 10 times as much at 4.2kg.  Michael started off getting up at night to bottle feed Tofu and slowly formed a deep bond with the little runt.  Michael has decided to adopt Tofu and give her the 1 on 1 attention she really needs.  The two of them are moving into a large house along with several of Michael's friends this fall.

Tofu is a beautiful Wheaten puppy but in a litter of 9 there's often one little one who isn't quite as big or quite as strong.  Tofu has lagged behind her brothers and sisters all along.  She didn't catch on to nursing as quickly and by the time she did learn to nurse she was so small her bigger siblings could easily push her aside.  We noticed her lack of growth just 12 hours after her birth and have been bottle feeding her ever since every two hours.  Even with all that extra love and attention she is still just a fraction the size of her brothers and sisters.  In nature the runt of the litter rarely survives but with our help, little Tofu will grow up to be a big healthy pup.

Because of all the extra handling from such a young age, we expect she will have a very loving personality and Michael will try his best to give her a wonderful home.
